Everything You Need to Know Before Visiting the Yakima Skyline Trail

Where Is the Yakima Rim Skyline Trail?

The Yakima Rim Skyline Trail is 15 miles from Birchfield Manor, or about a 30-minute drive. Take Interstate 82 West until you reach exit 26 in Selah. From there, expect to follow some backroads. Eventually, you want to end up on Buffalo Road where the Wenas Wildlife Area begins. The Yakima Skyline Trail begins about 1.5 miles from that point. Be sure to map the route before you head out! It can be tricky to navigate backroads in an unfamiliar area.

What to Expect Along the Trail

The Yakima Rim Skyline Trail is a 4.4-mile out-and-back hike. The ascent to the summit boasts nearly 1,500 feet of elevation gain, making it moderately difficult to traverse. We recommend this hike to experienced hikers or those who are already in good physical shape.  Along the way, you can enjoy spectacular views of wildflowers and other vegetation along the canyon walls. From the summit, gaze in awe at panoramic views of the canyon and Yakima River. Be sure to bring your camera, you don’t want to forget these views!
