Yakima Valley boasts 600,000 acres of stunning topography. From rolling vineyards to flowing rivers, there are stunning sights everywhere you look. One of our favorite places to appreciate Washington State’s natural beauty is the Yakima River Canyon. Sightseers can enjoy the canyon’s views via a scenic drive from Yakima to Ellensburg, or a float trip down the Yakima River. Learn more about what you can expect from each option below!

How You Can Explore the Yakima River Canyon
Drive the Yakima Canyon Loop
Pack the car with snacks and head out on the Yakima Canyon Loop! This 72-mile route is one of our favorite scenic road trips in Washington State. The route begins in Yakima and runs into the Yakima River Canyon Scenic Byway. The byway is a popular 25-mile stretch that winds between the canyon walls. Enjoy sights of the sparkling river and wildlife! It’s the perfect way to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time, as the trip takes 1.5 hours on average.
Take a Float Trip Along the Yakima River
Gaze up with wonder at the 2,000-feet tall canyon walls when you embark on a float trip! There are a couple of tour companies that take guests on guided float trips along the Yakima River, which flows south to east before emptying into the Columbia River. We recommend Alpine Adventures for a scenic float trip along the Yakima River! Tours are available seasonally from June to September and last about four hours.
